The Team was called to a gravel pit on Thursday 6/29/2017 for a four person soil entrapment. Members from Sandoval County, Rio Rancho, Corrales, Albuquerque, Placitas/Algadones, Zia, and La Madera fire Departments with support from the EMS Consortium, Lifeguard, Tristate and PHI, assisted with the rescue operation which took approximately six hours to complete. All four individuals who were entrapped survived.
Rescue Efforts
Rescue efforts were performed in a high-risk potential collapse zone for six hours. Several teams were created to stabilize the area around the entrapped individuals and perform the extrication process. Additional teams were created to remove the soil from the area around the rescue site as well as the soil being removed from around the patients. Teams worked throughout the entire incident to free the entrapped individuals. Paramedics and MDs provided patient care throughout the incident. All four individuals were successfully rescued and transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
